Xiaoxing Zhang
Xiaoxing Zhang is a professor of philosophy at Yunnan University. Alumnus of École Normale Supérieure de Paris, he received his BA from Peking University and PhD from Sorbonne University. With expertise on a wide range of topics including epistemology, the history of modern philosophy, and analytic comparative philosophy, he has published over 20 research papers in venues such as Philosophical Studies, Analysis, Synthese, Ergo, Inquiry, and several leading philosophy journals in China. Prof. Zhang is the author of Socrates in Love: Ten Introductory Lectures on Philosophy (Tsinghua University Press, 2020) and has developed a corresponding MOOC for young audiences.
As a Berggruen China Center Fellow, Prof. Zhang will conduct the project, ‘The Ontological Basing for Practical Rationality and Ethics in Eastern Philosophy’, which explores the potential of Confucian and Daoist ontologies as sources of solutions for contemporary global crises and promotes philosophical dialogues between Eastern and Western traditions.
